Stone doesn't forgive shortcuts. Every wall we build starts below ground with proper concrete footings, and every retaining wall gets drainage aggregate and a land drain behind it — because a wall in Cheshire spends every winter holding back saturated clay.
Above ground it's handwork: cutting reclaimed brick to a curve, coursing natural stone so it reads as one piece, rendering blockwork to a crisp arris. Walls, steps, raised beds, boundary stonework — in whatever material suits your home.

Fencing Cheshire
Fencing: the other half of your boundaries
Walls and fences do the same job — structure, privacy, shelter — so we treat them as one trade. We install timber close-board, decorative panel and contemporary Venetian slatted fencing, trellis toppers and metal railings, always with concrete-set posts and treated timber built for Cheshire's wet, windy winters.
The scheme in the photo — black slatted fencing with a pleached-tree screen planted above it — is our work, and typical of how we think about boundaries: fence, wall and planting designed together rather than bought by the panel.

A retaining wall is a structure, not a feature
The Wilmslow project in our portfolio came to us after another landscaper quoted to "just level" a steep garden with no structural design. Our two-tier solution — deep foundations, drainage aggregate, land drain — is the difference between a wall that stands for fifty years and one that bows in five. What makes a retaining wall last?
What’s behind it. A retaining wall holds back saturated Cheshire clay all winter, so ours are built on proper concrete foundations with drainage aggregate and a land-drain channel behind — water pressure never builds against the structure. It’s why we get called to replace other people’s walls, not our own.
Can you repair or rebuild an existing wall?
Usually, yes. Bulging or cracked garden walls can often be partially rebuilt using the original stone or brick, keeping the character while fixing the cause. We’ll tell you honestly when a repair is good money after bad.
Natural stone or rendered walls?
Natural and reclaimed stone suits period Cheshire properties and dry-stone boundaries; crisp rendered blockwork suits contemporary gardens, especially as raised beds with porcelain copings. Both are built on the same footings — the choice is character, not quality.
