Park Road, Hale: A Custom Pond, Patio and Lawn Transformation

Blog Case study

Hale gardens tend to be garden-proud, and this Park Road, Hale project set out to add a genuine centrepiece rather than just tidy up what was already there: a custom pond, a proper entertaining patio, and a lawn to match.

The Vision

Our clients wanted their backyard transformed into a serene yet stylish outdoor haven — somewhere that blended natural beauty with modern design, built around a water feature, a spacious patio for gatherings, and a well-maintained lawn. We worked closely with them through the design stage to make sure every detail reflected both their own style and the character of the Hale neighbourhood around them.

Planning and Preparation

The project began with a detailed consultation to understand exactly what the clients wanted from the space, followed by careful site clearance and preparation to give the new design a clean foundation to build from.

Constructing the Pond

The standout feature of this project is the custom-shaped brick pond — dug out, given a sturdy base, and finished with curved brick walls that add a touch of classic craftsmanship rather than the usual pre-formed liner look. A properly installed pond liner ensures durability and prevents leaks, and the finished pond now features a gentle fountain that creates a genuinely tranquil ambience and, as an added bonus, attracts local wildlife into the garden.

Laying the Patio

To complement the pond, we designed a spacious patio using high-quality stone pavers, extending directly from the conservatory to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. The stonework was finished with the kind of precision that adds both durability and a sophisticated look to the overall garden.

Landscaping and Greenery

We revitalised the lawn with premium turf, giving the household a vibrant, usable green space for relaxation or play, and bordered the patio and pond with carefully selected planting for a balanced, natural look. Retaining walls and pathways were added where needed to maximise how usable the sloped parts of the space actually were, rather than leaving them as awkward leftover ground.

Why a Custom Pond Outlasts a Pre-Formed One

A pre-formed liner pond is faster to install, but it dictates the shape of the feature rather than the other way round — you get whatever curve the mould was made in, positioned wherever it happens to fit. Building the pond from a dug profile and a flexible liner, edged in brick laid to a curve chosen for this specific garden, meant the pond could be sized and shaped to suit the sightline from the conservatory and the proportions of the patio next to it, rather than the garden being arranged around a fixed off-the-shelf shape. It takes longer to build, and it’s the reason the finished pond looks like it was always meant to be exactly where it is.

The Result

Park Road, Hale is now a garden built around a genuine focal point rather than just a patio and a lawn — a pond that draws the eye and the local wildlife, a patio that extends the house outward, and greenery that ties the whole design together. It’s a good example of what a garden can become when a water feature is designed in from the start rather than added as an afterthought.
